DJ Revolution

As one of the most well-known and respected hip hop DJs across the globe, DJ Revolution holds down the two Technics on the longest running commercial hip hop show in history and has been doing so for 22 years. The world renowned and now legendary "Wake Up Show", with hosts Sway (MTV) and King Tech, is an internationally syndicated hip hop mix show, that has helped launch the careers of some of the biggest and brightest, including Eminem, Xzbit, Common, and countless others. The show even experienced a brief run as a show on MTV, adding visual images and faces to the world famous radio trio. However, exposing quality hip hop to millions of people while displaying his unquestionable skill is just part of his resume. Fans would have also seen him showcase his talents as a contestant on the world’s first DJ reality competition show "Master of the Mix", which aired on BET and sister station CENTRIC in late 2010 and was sponsored by Vodka giant Smirnoff. Season 2 aired with Revolution returning as a celebrity judge alongside Kid Capri and the other competitors. He had the chance to perform at the 2011 BET Awards on stage with Big Boi and Yellawolf. He returned to that same BET stage several times since then to collaborate with other hip hop icons.

Aside from his legacy as DJ, producer and editor on the radio show based in Los Angeles, and now airing weekly on Eminem’s Shade45, he has lent his now infamous scratch techniques and production skills to many artists, established and up and coming alike. KRS-1, Sean Price, Pharoahe Monch, Blu, Evidence, Canibus, Tha Alkaholiks, Bootcamp Click and many more have all witnessed the turntable wizardry or pounding beats that Revolution brings to the table. He has released too many mix CDs and mixes that now live on Soundcloud to name. Taking his skills to the far corners of the world and ripping clubs all over Europe, Asia and Australia/New Zealand is also a major part of what Revolution is known for. This of course includes traveling the US and Canada to spin alongside the likes of Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier Q-bert and Maseo from De La Soul while also headlining clubs himself and providing tour DJ services for numerous artists including Kanye West. Captions, interviews and miscellaneous video footage of him are extensive and can be found on websites all over the internet as well. Most recently Revolution was awarded the “Routine of the Year” for 2019 by Serato, the widely respected music tech company and maker of the world’s premier DJ software and control vinyl.  His latest and most ambitious project is “Skills Over Everything”. An elite training ground and social club for DJs and producers based in Los Angeles but accessible to the world online.

DJ Rev has also released 3 solo full length albums, released to retail on all formats that garnered him critical acclaim (In 12s We Trust and R2K) and a collaboration with his partners Sway & Tech on Interscope in ‘99.  "King of the Decks", his 3rd full length project was released on Duck Down records to rave reviews and attained classic status among his fans and peers, including the coveted #1 spot on DJ Premier's top 20 Hip Hop Albums of the Year. Rev has also begun lending his production to film and TV. Working with MTV, VH1, ESPN among others and freelancing custom work for independent film makers. He got the bug in ‘97 when he scored the Jet Li cult classic movie Black Mask. As well as releasing his own music, he is very heavily involved in the music technology scene. Some of the biggest companies in the industry look to use his influence in the hip hop and DJ community to help introduce major products into the market.

But in the end, no matter how involved in the business of hip hop DJ Revolution becomes, he will always be most comfortable standing behind two turntables, exposing great music to whoever would hear it while displaying his world renowned technical abilities to manipulate sound.
